Welcome Max Martinucci (O'Brien Real Estate, OAKLEIGH) - helping our local club thrive and support the local community. Ask him how.
For netballers and families who are new to the sport, discover the benefits of netball. It's Australia's second most popular sport and one of the easiest team sport to learn.
Oakleigh South Netball Club (OSNC) is a Not-For-Profit Incorporated Association. OSNC's Constitution is available here.
In 1998 Vivian Walker and Wendy Townley’s daughters, who attended Oakleigh South Primary School, pestered their mothers about playing netball. As a result, Wendy and Viv started a team, training after school, using the school’s asphalt area and with the school supporting the initiative.
The team was registered with the Caulfield and District Netball Association (CDNA) with the name ‘Oakleigh South Netball Club (OSNC)’, a not-for-profit club for the local community. Vivian and Wendy decided the theme for the club should be gemstones and named the first team the ‘Crystals’. In the subsequent, with the support from many parents and friends, the club has grown to many teams.
Since the club’s debut, both Vivian and Wendy have served on the Oakleigh South and CDNA committees in a number of important capacities. The pair’s contribution to founding, establishing and nurturing a club, while enjoying the rewards of creating another sporting option for children, is unsurpassed. To recognise their tremendous efforts, Vivian and Wendy were presented with an inaugural life membership at the annual presentation night in June 2007. Past President, Sandra Calvert, said the club owed its very existence to these two women.
Today, Oakleigh South Netball Club remains a club based on the ongoing support of many volunteers from diverse cultures and backgrounds with a family-friendly focus. Our current teams are:
15 & Under - Rubies
11 & Under - Emeralds and Diamonds
9 & Under - Opals
We encourage parents, players, siblings or friends who are 14 years old + to give coaching a go. Oakleigh South Netball Club coaches are volunteers from the local community support and offer their skills and time to support the development of players' skills, sporting performance and teamwork. Coaches who are 18 years old + have a Victorian Working with Children Check (Service Victoria) for child safety.
Volunteering as a netball coach offers numerous benefits, including personal skill development, a sense of community, mental and physical wellbeing and the satisfaction of contributing to others' growth. You can improve your leadership, communication, and organisational skills, while staying fit and healthy. Oakleigh South Netball Club will support financially you to obtain a Victoria Netball Associating Coaching Accreditation Foundation online course. If you are interested in coaching, email netballoakleighsouth@gmail.com.
Like many community sport clubs, Oakleigh South Netball Club have volunteer Team Managers to help the Club run smoothly. Each team must have a Team Manager. The Team Manager is usually one of the parents of the team who supports the team so that training and games run well. Children of Team Managers generally get a thrill from seeing their parent / guardian in the Team Manager role too!
The Club's committee will support Team Managers with some of the team's season administration. The Team Manager's role is to primarily support with the administration and support for the competition games.
